An old photo of when we were 'carving' out a flat spot in the brush.

SUNSET
Just had a phone call about Patti's Mother, had a stroke, but doing well in the hospital in Tyler.
To give you a background on her parents, her Dad Joe, drove a landing craft on to the beach 6 times on D-Day. 5 of those times was to pick up and evacuate the wounded.
He never talked to anyone about that but me, about 10 years ago, we both unloaded on each other when the women folk were gone somewhere, but I always had great respect for him any way.( He was killed in a tractor accident on their farm 3 years ago.){ you go through 4 years of war, go home, and die on a dammed tractor in your own back yard........}
Patti's Mother now is 87, frail, but general good health till tonight. We'll see what the doctors say tomorrow.

FIRST CAMP
This is one of my first photo's of camp after 3 hard days of work. When we drove up there, there was nothing but desert. I have to tell you, we took the next day off to rest.
Next photo is of the road from Hiway 90 to the ranch, very treacherous when it's in bad condition after a big rain.
This is 2 of my best friends Jimmy and Tom, who helped me carve out my space in a very inhospitable piece of the desert.
When I took them out the first time, BEFORE, we came out to work, I told them, " Your either going to love the desert, or your going to hate the desert". They both loved it, and go back with me, every time they can.
Next photo, the help, about to load the feeder on the nw high mesa.
The reward for their hard work, a Cuban cigar, and all the Bud they could drink, in addition to me cooking for them for 4 days, but I do have to say, they always helped me clean up.
There is NOTHING like good friends you can trust with your life, or wife, and these are two of them. They might not be as good as they once were, but they are as good once as they ever were, and that goes back with me about 50 years or so.
That's all for tonight, will check in later, thanks for watching.

I have a great fireproof dehumidified safe for all my weapons that are not in the house in close range for use in the case of an emergency, but crikey, you STILL have to clean them and oil them even with the 2 dehumidifiers going in the safe.
The view of camp from the entrance to the ranch from the north, those mountains in the background are in Mexico, across the river.
The other little fellow came up to camp in the dark, while a friend and I were sitting in our lawn chairs watching a MAGNIFICENT lighting show in Mexico. A tradition in camp is to have a margarita for breakfast, so I stood up and was going for another one, and that snake had crawled up under my chair and curled up about 6 inches from my right heel, and went to singing when I moved. I jumped almost to Mexico, and dispatched him as quiclky as I could with that 12 ga he's laying beside, and still rattling, he's what we call a blacktail.
