BIRTHDAY GIFT

That's the day my folks presented me with this J C Higgins Model 41 .22 rifle, for my birthday, I was finally 10, I had been trying to move the date up since I was 9, but my Dad, said, ' Son, when I think your ready, you'll have it, and not one minute sooner'. I had been shooting everything we had since I was 8, without very much supervision, as a matter of fact, I killed my first deer when I was 10 as well, with my dad's .243, at about 100 yards, ( running, neck shot, but no one will believe this but my family.) Funny how things change, I'm lucky to hit a target setting still now days. I seemed to have this knack for hitting moving targets, and always have. I have not shot a deer since 1982, and that was because I needed something to eat, and won't again, unless that's the case again, more on that later.
This rifle has had thousands of rounds through it, and I loaned it to the Boy Scouts about a year ago for their qualifying for badges, and it still drives tacks. This rifle was lugged around by me for years on our ranch in Sonora Tx, and Burnet County, and could tell some stories if it could talk, I'm sure.

Thanks for checking in.

  1. Reminds me of the Ranger.22 my father was given on his 10th birthday. It now resides in my safe. My brother and I learned to shoot with it, as well as my children. Good, solid, dependable.
