KITTY, KITTY, KITTY

This is a photo a good friend of mine snapped of a cat that was walking behind the motel rooms in the Basin area of Big Bend Park in April this year.
According to the photographer, it had no fear of her, or anyone else........... I don't think that's a good thing.
I never walk anywhere without being armed, and you can imagine why now can't you? There was a young boy attacked by a cat there this year as well.

Thanks for stopping by.

Jim, those bears and cat's are there, I think we don't see them because we don't spend enough time there in order to run into them. I walked up on a cat one time, and we both scared each other so bad, I didn't get a photo of him. These bears are at Sanderson.

  1. In 1985 there was a similar incident of a cat attacking a boy in the same area. The boy was from Garland, Texas. It required multiple operations to fix boy's scalp where the cat had attacked him.

    1. I remember that attack quit well, Deguello, A friend of mine in Alpine drove that boy back to Dallas in an ambulance. All the times I've been in Big Bend, I have never seen a cat or a bear. Wish I could get a good photo of a bear.

  2. It is not a good thing when a wild animal is not scared of you. Looks like that cat could easily tear into my little tent.

  3. With my bad case of CRS (Can't Remember Sh*#) I thought I had heard they caught the cat and that it was an old female...then again I could be wrong :(

  4. That is a most excellent photo of that big cat. I've done some hiking in Colorado and always worried about them there. If they jump you from behind a gun is probably not going to do much good, but I carry always.

  5. The big cats are all around us - they are just so elusive that we rarely see them. I caught one in a bobcat cage a few months ago. By far the scariest time of my life... letting a big cat out of a cage and standing within 5 ft of the beast. WOWSERS!

  6. Chris, what an adventure! Did the cat move away as soon as you opened the gate, I hope?
    Did you get any photo's?

  7. Suerte,

He backed out really slowly and went immediately into stalking mode. I expected him to respond like a bobcat and just take off but he didn't. Just slowly stalked his way down to the river, and eventually right back up on the road a few yards from me. Then he walked right down the middle of the road and eventually up into the mountain. I took a short video of him while in the cage. Nothing while getting him out because I kinda had my hands full. lol
